From speaking with my local county forester (Roane County TN), my USDA/NRCS Forester, and two commercial land management companies…. They all discouraged “selective” cutting, and said clear cut was best. Then come back 5-10 years later and clear the less desirable species and poorly performing crop saplings. Our local saw mills do publish their price lists, you call them and they will e-mail it out. Now that being said… at this point I am not likely to clear cut my property and would select some trees for harvest as I have already lost 4-5 36″ and greater @BH Hardwoods so money lost already….. My forest, my way, but get some more educated opinions than my non-professional, but land owner (140 acres of forest) points of view……
