Apologies for being so late to this discussion. I joined Silvicultural a few months ago but am just now finding the time to use it.

I’ve used a Woody’s HD90 forestry trailer since 2020 and it has been especially great for forwarding wood long distances. I’ve taken it into the woods at the stump but it is hard to back up in tight spaces so I didn’t do a lot of this. Like Zach explained, I use a logging winch on my tractor to skid wood a short distance to the side of a main trail and then I pick up the wood with the trailer. This really protected my main skid trail from being torn up by skidding wood. It also kept the wood cleaner which is important for sawlogs and firewood. I’ve put some pretty big wood on it too – 16ft pine sawlogs 18-20 inch top diameter. It won’t dead lift these but you can pick up one end, put it on the trailer, and then grab the other end to swing it on. The removable stakes make this much easier.

Another great use I’ve found for the trailer is to use it cutting firewood. I grab 2 or 3, 10 or 12 foot firewood sticks and suspend them 3 feet off the ground to the side of the trailer. This allows me to stand up straight as I cut the firewood to stove length. No more bending over!

Originally, I ran the loader hydraulics off my tractor but then purchased a power unit a couple years ago so I could use it behind other equipment like a UTV side-by-side. I’ve even pulled it behind my pick up.

I upgraded to an Alstor forwarder this fall so I’m selling the Woody HD90. If you, or anyone else, is interested in it just let me know.
